How do you survive a 1,000 foot fall? →
No one knows for sure. Sheer luck probably.
An irreverent thought occurs to me. The guy that fell from one of Britain’s highest mountains, apart form being incredibly lucky, is also employed as a Landfill Manager. Isn’t that taking job research to a new extreme?
An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea...

My Important Thoughts: New internet rules (for... →
inthefade:

1. Everyone on the internet is a stranger.
You may think you know someone online. You don’t. The internet provides only a glimpse of who that person is, a highly edited view that they make themselves. Some are more open than others. Some hold back from shyness. Some hold back…
My life would be far less interesting, far less happy and far less awesome if I followed any...

Help! I want to stop hogging your dashboards
but I can’t work out how to insert a “read more” break into a photo post. There’s a little button in the text post toolbar that doesn’t appear in the photo post toolbar.
Anyone have any ideas?

I'm not listed in Tumbleweeds under anything
Zip, nada, zilch. I don’t give a hoot about some Toy Town directory that potentially compromises my security. In truth, I’m only really interested in cultivating a following that clicks the follow button because they’re interested in what I have to say.
Excuse me? Is that inconvenient because you might have to do some work in order to make a decision, rather than rely on a...

I'm confused tumblr...
For several days, my follower count has fluctuated. I thought the dips may be associated with a recent article about Islamophobia, which I anticipated might provoke a few departures. It was difficult to tell, because it coincided with another tumblr hiccough.
How wrong I was. I clearly underestimated the quality of the people who read my rambling here. Now the count has stabilised I see a few...

Andy Gray says "sorry" - some apology!
Andy Gray, the disgraced Sky Sports commentator is “devastated” by the loss of his £1.7 million job. My heart bleeds. Perhaps he should have thought of how the targets of his shameful sexist remarks felt before he opened his mouth.
HIs apology is equally disgraceful. He said: “I am very sorry that certain comments made by me have caused offence. Such comments were made off-air...

Islamophobia (continued)
So I’m going to share this with you guys and risk the exodus.
A few days ago I posted a link to an article in The Guardian that followed Baroness Warsi’s recent lecture at Leicester University. Sayeeda Warsi is Britain’s first female Muslim cabinet minister and in her somewhat controversial speech, she warned that Islamophobia is increasingly seen as not only normal, but...

Burns Night tonight
-deathmaydie:
bring on the veggie haggis
I bet this tastes like sh*t, never had it before
If it’s MacSween’s I can assure you it’s awesome. In fact, we introduced several of our carnivorous Scottish friends to MacSween’s when we lived in Scotland, and they said they preferred it to the “real” thing! Enjoy your Burns Night & raise a glass for me.

youreexposed.com - Exposed!
No doubt I’m not the only one, but this is to reassure others who might receive a similar message.
It’s bot-generated spam. The troll(s) behind the scam are merely trying to con you into signing up to a text messaging service that will cost you at least $9.99 a month. It’s cyber bullying targetted at gullible teenagers, definitely USA orientated and seeks a US cellphone number....

White Cliffs of Dover
We’re going on a hike along the cliff top path. That may not be the wisest decision in the current circumstances. The temptation to throw a certain person over the edge may prove irresistible.

Hello, I'm a Mac
holesintheground:
(I imagine) Watching me trying to perform basic tasks on a PC is a bit like watching Bambi walk for the first time.
Once upon a time I was actaully PC literate.
Spelling. See me after ^
My life. Only I’m not as elegant as Bambi (or you, probably). You really have no idea how much I loathe PCs.

It's not all bad
I took the girls and Maisy for a hike today. The younger of the two has just learned from her social worker that she’ll be staying with us for some time. That wasn’t on her wish list, so the potential for fall-out is there. I let her guide us today; she missed a lot of sensory stuff as a young child and has an awful lot of catching up to do. Like last weekend, she elected to go for the...
This is one of those days
when I question my sanity and why we do what we do.
We agreed to look after a teenager whose regular carer was away this weekend. I’ve spent all day in the company of a persistent, grating, honking noise. I cannot recall ever meeting anyone so fond of the sound of their own voice.
It wouldn’t be so bad if the braying were quieter or if there was anything sensible falling from her...
