“We Are Not The Dead: Soldiers’ Faces Before, During, and After Serving in Afghanistan.” (via TMN)
The stark reality of the enormous toll that conflict exacts upon the human psyche. The theatre of operations (Why do they call it that? Is it more palatable than war?) is immaterial; whether in Afghanistan, Iraq, the Falklands or Northern Ireland, the damage is palpable and permanent. These pictures show only the physical change. Our young men (and women) are frequently emotionally traumatised to such an extent that they are unable to lead normal lives once their time in the forces is over.
Leave our sons and daughters alone. It’s not our war.
We don’t understand time.

Amazing photo essay of soldiers.
