Riding lessons
Things I learned whilst taking a late bike ride today:
- Start earlier if you want to do 25 miles in less than 90 minutes
- There are millions of bugs at dusk (but now there are several hundred fewer)
- Bugs taste revolting (or maybe it’s because I’m vegetarian)
- It doesn’t matter how good you think your lights are, they’re not bright enough
- It gets completely dark on Romney Marsh
- There are no street lights on the Marsh, but plenty of deep ditches
- Potholes hurt when you don’t see them coming
- Pheasant and rabbits both play Russian roulette by trying to unseat cyclists
- Grey Herons make weird noises
- Bats can fly at 20mph (at least)
- Owls fly in perfect silence
- Owls are awesome (but I knew that anyway)
Learning objective: achieved.
Of the many things to do on a Saturday night…
…spending all night in A&E probably wouldn’t have been my first choice.
That said, the long suffering staff there probably don’t relish the idea either. Despite all the alcohol related cases, they were still very attentive and did their best to make my battered Princess feel more comfortable.
